Specific Wig Measurements

It's important to take detailed measurements of your head to ensure the most accurate fit for a wig.

1. Circumference

   - Petite: 20.5" to 21.25"

   - Average: 21.5" to 22.5"

   - Large: 22.75" to 23.5"

   - How to measure: Start by measuring the circumference of your head. Place one end of the tape measure at the center of your forehead, just above your eyebrows. Wrap the tape around your head, just above your ears and along the nape of your neck, then back to the starting point. Ensure the tape measure lies flat against your head and is snug but not too tight.

2. Front to Nape

   - Petite: 13" to 13.5"

   - Average: 14" to 14.5"

   - Large: 15" to 15.5"

   - How to measure: This measurement ensures the wig will sit comfortably from the front of your scalp to the back. Place the end of the tape measure at the middle of your hairline, then run the tape over the top of your head and down to the nape of your neck, where your skull meets your spine.

3. Ear to Ear Across the Forehead

   - Petite: 10.75" to 11"

   - Average: 11.5" to 11.75"

   - Large: 12" to 12.5"

   - How to measure ear-to-ear across the forehead, place the tape measure at your hairline at the base of one sideburn, bring it up across the forehead, and meet the same point at the other sideburn.

4. Ear to Ear Over the Top

   - Petite: 11.25" to 11.5"

   - Average: 12" to 12.5"

   - Large: 13" to 13.5"

   - How to measure: Similar to the previous measurement but this time, you’ll be taking the tape measure over the crown of your head. Place the tape measure at your hairline at the base of your ear, bring the tape up and over the top of your head, and down to the same point at your other ear.

5. Temple to Temple Around the Back of the Head

   - Petite: 12.5" to 12.75"

   - Average: 13.25" to 13.75"

   - Large: 14" to 14.5"

   - How to measure: For this measurement, find your temples – the soft spot between the corner of your eye and your hairline. Place the tape at one temple, run it around the back of your head, ensuring it rests just above the occipital bone (the bump at the back of your head), and then up to the other temple.

6. Nape of Neck

   - Petite: 4" to 4.5"

   - Average: 5" to 5.5"

   - Large: 6" to 6.5"

   - How to measure: Measure the width of your nape. Place the tape measure at the lowest point on one side of your nape and measure across to the corresponding point on the other side.

Tips for Measuring

  • Use a Cloth Measuring Tape: A flexible cloth measuring tape will provide more accurate measurements than a rigid metal tape measure.

  • Measure in Front of a Mirror: This allows you to see that the tape measure is positioned correctly.

  • Keep the Tape Flat and Snug: The tape should be snug against your scalp but not dig in or cause indentation.

  • Record Your Measurements: Write down each measurement as you go, and if you're unsure, measure a couple of times for accuracy.

  • Consider Hair Density: If you have very thick or long hair, consider how you will accommodate this under a wig. Some people with thick hair choose a slightly larger size to accommodate the bulk of their natural hair.
